Answers with a way back.
Hybrid retrieval and source attribution connect collected evidence to a controlled knowledge lifecycle, keeping provenance available as information becomes an answer.
MY CONTRIBUTION
Designed the source-to-answer lifecycle, retrieval boundaries and deterministic validation practices for applied knowledge workflows.
TOOLS & METHODS
Oracle AI Database 26AI · hybrid retrieval · embeddings · chunking · source attribution · deterministic gates
CHALLENGE
An answer becomes difficult to inspect when its sources disappear behind retrieval and synthesis. Knowledge workflows need usable context, traceable evidence and validation that is separate from fluent generation.
DESIGN DECISIONS
Keep the six lifecycle stages explicit. Collect sources, preserve usable context in chunks, represent meaning through embeddings, retrieve relevant evidence, retain sources in the answer and apply deterministic gates before accepting the output.
CONSTRAINTS
The private corpus requires provenance and a knowledge lifecycle. A plausible answer is insufficient: retrieval, citations and deterministic checks must support an inspectable result.
The source-to-answer path.
01 / Source
Collect evidence and retain its origin.
02 / Chunk
Keep usable context in bounded units.
03 / Embed
Represent meaning for retrieval.
04 / Retrieve
Find relevant evidence through the available retrieval paths.
05 / Answer
Synthesize a response while retaining source attribution.
06 / Validate
Apply deterministic gates and make unresolved conditions explicit.
IMPLEMENTATION & VALIDATION
Sources pass through ingestion, chunking and embeddings before retrieval and grounded generation. Source retention and citations connect the answer to its evidence; validation remains a distinct stage.
RESULT & EVIDENCE
The portfolio shows the complete six-stage provenance path and its validation boundary. It explains the engineering method without exposing the private knowledge collection.
EVIDENCE LIMIT
This is a conceptual, editable provenance view. It does not establish current database availability, retrieval accuracy, collection completeness or a live connection to private documents.
PROVENANCE IS PART OF THE ANSWER
The route back to the evidence is part of the output, not an optional presentation detail.
PRIVATE KNOWLEDGE REMAINS PRIVATE
The public case describes the lifecycle and boundaries. It does not reproduce internal documents, private identifiers or collection contents.
TRADE-OFFS & LESSONS
Chunk size and retrieval scope affect context quality and cost. Hybrid retrieval broadens access but does not establish correctness by itself. This conceptual view does not claim a measured accuracy score or current service availability.
