PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE / MAJOR INCIDENT & CRISIS
Incident Commander. Clarity under pressure.
Leading P1/P0 war rooms means bringing technical response, resources, communications and a reliable timeline into one coordinated incident practice.
MY CONTRIBUTION
Incident Commander across the same major-incident and crisis responsibilities from 2022–2026, with progression from Analyst to Senior Analyst.
TOOLS & METHODS
ITSM · war-room coordination · incident timelines · RCA · executive communication · Power Automate · Copilot
CHALLENGE
During a major incident, incomplete initial context, concurrent technical work and stakeholder pressure need to be turned into an organized response. Clear ownership and current information matter throughout the recovery.
DESIGN DECISIONS
Assess the incoming scenario, lead the room and activate resources according to the need or technical request. Keep technical teams, stakeholders, leadership, management and the client aligned through a maintained timeline and criticality-based updates.
CONSTRAINTS
Major incidents involve high pressure, parallel teams and changing criticality. Communication, escalation and the timeline must stay coherent without exposing client identities or operational records.
One analyst. Six incident functions.
01 / Incident Lead
Lead the war room, establish the current scenario and coordinate the technical response.
02 / Communications Lead
Issue periodic status updates according to criticality and keep the message consistent.
03 / Scribe / timeline
Document events, decisions, actions and changes in the incident timeline.
04 / Resource coordination
Identify needs and mobilize infrastructure, application, network, DBA and supplier teams.
05 / Stakeholder liaison
Maintain communication between technical teams, stakeholders, leadership, management and the client.
06 / Escalation / process
Coordinate escalations and the incident process while preserving continuity of response.
IMPLEMENTATION & VALIDATION
Across the continuous 2022–2026 experience, responsibilities covered incident leadership, communications, timeline/scribing, resource coordination, stakeholder liaison and escalation/process. Progression was from Analyst to Senior Analyst.
RESULT & EVIDENCE
One analyst combined six incident functions: incident leadership, communications, timeline documentation, resource coordination, stakeholder liaison and escalation/process coordination.
EVIDENCE LIMIT
This case presents responsibilities and working practice. Client identities, individual incident details, internal communications and recovery-time claims are not published.
ONE CONTINUOUS EXPERIENCE / 2022–2026
The promotion to Senior Analyst changed the level, not the core incident and crisis responsibilities. The portfolio keeps this period grouped.
FROM OPERATIONS TO ENGINEERING
This practice informs the way I build AI systems: inspect the state, reduce ambiguity, bound actions and retain evidence for the next decision.
TRADE-OFFS & LESSONS
Coordination supports recovery without claiming sole ownership of technical fixes. This case demonstrates responsibilities and operating discipline; it makes no unsupported recovery-time, client-scale or availability claims.
